UWOPA asks for women councils

Women members of parliament under the Uganda women parliamentarian Association have asked the new minister in the ministry of Gender labour and Social development Hajat Janat Mukwaya to initiate a process of electing women councils. The member of Uganda women parliamentary Association who is also the member of parliament for Kamwenge district Dorothy Nshaija said that its unfortunate to see the biggest number on the country’s population not having leadership at local councils in the country.

Nshaija also called for recruitment of more midwives to attend to pregnant mothers in health facilities to reduce on maternal mortality rate . She demanded for recruitment of more teachers to match with number of students and construction of more class rooms with good toilet facilities with the girl child given sanitary pads. She said that government should use this five years to make sure there is a technical and secondary school in each sub county.
The woman Member of Parliament for Gulu district Betty also called for making women groups in all districts access women enterprise funds without unfavourable conditions.
