Inspector General of Police Gen. Edward Kale Kayihura  has appointed AIGP Fred Yiga the new Chief Political Commissar of the Police. Yiga replaces  Asuman Mugyenyi who has been moved to head the Police’s Directorate of Operations.

AIGP Yiga in the past served as the United Nations (UNMISS) commissioner of police for South Sudan for more than 10 years until early this year when he handed over to Rwanda’s Bruce Munyambo. His promotion to CPC by Kayihura follows police’s recently announced nationwide rectification’ campaign aimed at professionalizing the force.

In his letter promoting Yiga,  Kayihura , tasked him  to operationalize the Police’s Department of Political Education and aggressively work to improve the public image of the police by operationalizing the Department of information and public relations, among other things.
