In their bid to oppose plans by Museveni group to remove the age-limit clause from the constitution, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has formed a new youth group which is going in and around Kampala mobilizing against
the move.

The leader of the group, Kantayomba Olive Pearl was arrested last week by police in Kabaawo Mutundwe-Rubaga Division mobilizing over 200 youths to start demonstrations in Kampala. Last week, Nakifuma County MP Kafeero Sekitoleko tabled a motion in Parliament intending at removing the age-limit of Judges from 70-75 years, which sparked off criticisms from the opposition on sensing that this could be a move to enable president Museveni rule for life. Kantayomba a known ardent supporter of Rtd Col Dr.Kiiza Besigye and activist attached to Forum for Democratic Change, FDC was arrested together with a group of youths donned in Besigye T-shirts.

According to Police, Kantayomba was arrested and charged with threatening violence to the police officer who tried to stop the rally they had organized without permission from the relevant authorities.

“We have arrested her because she is the leader of the group, they organized an assembly without our knowledge as police” Akol a police officer who arrested Kantayomba said. “She threatened me with violence after talking to her nicely, I had no option but to arrest and put her incells” he added.

Kantayomba told Red Pepper that she had notified police in writing but didn’t get any reply, she added that police is witch-hunting her because she is a strong supporter of Dr. Kiiza Besigye and for her efforts to oppose the age-limit plans.

“Last time they arrested me and beat-up, it is my right to support whoever I want, police has also become partisan, they have been following me for now one month until they arrested me, but I want to assure them, as long as
I am still alive, I will not let Museveni rule this country like his home” she said. She was later released on police bond and ordered to report back to police in a week’s time.

Pearl a mother of two joins the league of other fiery FDC women like Ingrid Turinawe, Barbara Alimadi, Hamidah Nassimbwa and Doreen Nyanjura who have severally been arrested and detained for subversive activities.
