The Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Hon. Winfred Kiiza, has called for the revival of district farm institutes and development of agro processing facilities in zones with a comparative production advantage.

“District farm institutes are essential in developing skills, promoting modern technologies and high yielding varieties,” she said.

Speaking at the close of the Uganda UK Convention in London on Friday, 9 September 2016, Hon. Kiiza said improved accessibility to water for production would provide viable investment opportunities for maximizing agricultural production.

She said consistent and adequate produce was a basis for value addition, food security and creation of employment.

Speaking at the same event, the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, urged Ugandans in the diaspora to extend their funds, skills and experience in the development of Uganda, particularly in agro processing.

Lord Dolar Amarshi Popat, the UK Trade Envoy to Uganda appreciated the bilateral trade between the United Kingdom and Uganda.

“Uganda has become a key economic partner in the region and it is the right time to exploit her utmost potential,” he said.

Convention speakers reinforced the need to address skills and entrepreneurial deficits that are constraining value addition, a necessity for the positive transformation of livelihoods.

The Uganda UK Convention started in 2011 as a trade and investment forum that engages leaders, technocrats, entrepreneurs, institutions and Ugandans in the diaspora in promoting investment opportunities in Uganda.
