The High Court’s Family Division on Monday granted the termination of the marriage of Deputy Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanya and his enstranged wife Winnie Amoo Oulanya.

This was after the couple asked for dissolution before, Justice Alexandria Rugadya Nkonge, that nothing more could be done to redeem their 3 year marriage.

In his judgment read by Deputy Registrar Justine Atukwase, Justice Nkonge handed the two children’s custody to their mother Winnie Amoo.

He also ordered Oulanyah, to make prior notice before visiting the children, pay a monthly maintenance fee of USD 690 (About 2,277,000 Uganda shillings) to provide care for 2 young children now living with their mother in the US. This fee is expected to cater for clothing, food, gasoline and utilities for the children.

In 2015, Oulanya, petitioned court seeking orders to formally dissolve his marriage to Amoo whom he accused of abandoning their marital home for USA a move that he said also violated his conjugal rights.

Amoo in her defence however accused Oulanyah of brutalizing her and living an adulterous life.
