The alcohol bill 2016 pushed as a private members bill by Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament, Betty Nambooze Bakileke, seeks to put some better guidance on alcohol consumption, selling and manufacturing in Uganda for the nation to have a smooth industry.

In a consultative meeting with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) on Wednesday, Nambooze says she will not give up on the fight she started as she intends to create a healthier and responsible citizenry in the country.

However, as she pushes for the bill to be heard of the floor of Parliament, reports from a section of groups in the country who are against the bill and are said to be decampaigning it among members of the public while portraying it as a bill fronted by the opposition intended to send away investors such that the state can lose out on its revenue something Nambooze refutes.

The MP says next week she plans to meet with the Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda and Health Minister, Jane Aceng to work out on the modalities on how to move the bill to its next step.

However, the executive director Butabika hospital, Dr. David Basangwa says such laws need to be passed without any resistance from legislators and leaders since they intend to help government  from averting serious health problems that have left government spend huge budgets on treatment and rehabilitation to those who fall victims of alcohol abuse.

Namboze in her proposal wants among other things the time for alcohol consumption to be regulated.
