Health workers have warned women against giving birth with the aid of traditional birth attendants saying that they stand high risks of losing both the babies and their lives.

The district health officer of Lwengo district, Dr. Joseph Mutyogoma, says that much as there is no law forbidding a woman from giving birth at traditional birth attendant they need to do it cautious since they do not have the skills to identify potential dangers.

Dr.Mutyoma attributes the number of women going to traditional birth attendants to cultural beliefs, luck of money and support from their husbands among many others which the health centers are now trying to address.

He says that traditional birth attendants are being sensitized to refer mothers to health facilities in cases where a mother takes long hours in labor.
