The Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) has revealed that the production of coffee in the country has drastically increased over the past one year.

Addressing journalists at the media center ahead of the country’s first coffee competition auction, the Director Quality and Regulatory Services at the Authority, Edmund Kananura, said last year alone over 4.3M bags were produced compared to the 3.6M bags usually produced.

Kananura adds that the auction will provide a unique branding and marketing opportunity for small holder producers that are producing high quality coffee to access new markets and create an international brand for their coffees.

Well processed coffee beans

To make the auction a success Kananura says starting tomorrow up to 24th August a quality training of over 20 coffee exporters and producer cooperatives will be carried out by the African Fine Coffee Association to highlight the benefits of the competition and also provide skills on how to prepare and process high quality specialty coffee beans.
