Journalists Trained on Sexual Reproductive Health Rights in Kampala
A training initiative aimed at equipping journalists with appropriate knowledge on sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) in Kampala. The goal of the program is to empower journalists to report on reproductive health stories with accuracy, nuance, and sensitivity, thereby challenging societal narratives and stereotypes.
Journalists, often regarded as the ears and eyes of society, participated in sessions that delved into various aspects of SRHR, including the use of contraceptives, teenage pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, laws, policies, and best practices for reporting on these topics.
Ronnie Tusingwire, Program and Capacity Coordinator for the Sexual Reproductive Health Rights Alliance (SRHR), emphasized the importance of journalists having accurate and reliable information. She noted, “It is the role of journalists to amplify voices. As they do their work, it’s critical that they approach these stories from an informative and factual perspective, which is why this training was organized.”
This initiative highlights the critical role of the media in fostering informed discussions around sexual and reproductive health, contributing to better understanding and positive change within communities.
