60% of women in Uganda diagnosed with cervical cancer

Over 60% of women in Uganda have been diagnosed with cervical cancer according to Dr. Fred Okuku of Uganda Cancer Institute in MulagoNationalReferralHospital.

Dr. Fred Okuku says cervical cancer is present in women aged 18 years and not 35 years as it used to be three years back. Dr. Fred says that cervical cancer is present in girls aged 18 because many girls in Uganda these days start sex early.

Uganda has 35 cryo therapy machines in 14 government referral hospitals and one health centre.  The cryo therapy machines are used for early detection of cancerous cells.
