sexual and gender based violence rife in Uganda

The Women Wont Wait Campaign that is being led by Action Aid has demanded that the government should urgently repeal all the laws that discriminate against women.

The campaign which prominently, publicly and consistently underscores that violence against women and girls is a major driver and consequence of HIV/AIDS has also made other various demands on violence against women and HIV/AIDS.

According to a media statement by Action Aid the campaign demands that government should increase its funding to the programs that are geared towards preventing violence against women and girls.

The campaign further demands that violence against women in Uganda should be approached as a community issue, an issue of public health and as a human rights crisis that calls for the attention of community members, health workers, law makers and policy implementers if it is as successfully countered as the women would have wished.

Women wont wait campaign is an international coalition of organizations and networks working to promote women’s health and human rights in the struggle to address HIV/AIDS and end all forms of violence against women.
