African MPs wants a fully fledged African Parliament


Members of the Pan African Parliament have agreed to discuss the transformation of the Pan African Parliament from a mere advisory body into a fully fledged arm of the African Union (AU) to enable it influence issues and policies.

The Deputy Speaker of the Pan African Parliament Mary Mugyenyi told journalists at Uganda Parliament that the next meeting of the Pan African Parliament due on 16th to 17th July 2010 will also discuss the implementation AU decisions by the member countries.

The Pan African Parliament is an institution that brings together legislators from different African countries who are member countries of the AU to advise on legislative matters related to African Union.

This comes as Uganda prepares to hold the 15th Ordinary Session of the Summit of the African Union (AU) to be held from 19 to 27 July, 2010
