The Katikiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga has condemned the arrest of most presidential aspirants in the coming elections.
In an interview at Mengo, Mayiga described the arrests as total humiliation and violation of their human rights in disguise of preventing the spread of COVID-19.
“The method of preventing the spread of COVID-19 shouldn’t be killing, torturing and arresting innocent people due to the difference in political offices.” he said.
He said Coronavirus is real and it kills but security agencies should not make a case that they are trying to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by murdering innocent Ugandans.
Mayiga said it is not that whoever violates set guidelines and regulations or even breaks the law should be beaten, imprisoned, or violated upon.
Mayiga also said “A word of caution is better to create harmony. So let us promote peaceful means of handling differences,”
He also urged law enforcement agencies and government to ensure that the freedoms of all political aspirants and Ugandans are respected.
