Buganda Land Board sells Kabaka’s land to a Chinese company

It has been reported that Buganda Land Board (BLB) has sold part of the 350 miles of Kabaka’s land to Henan Guoji partnership, a construction company from China to develop income real estates.

Without first seeking the consent of the bonafide residents on the land or plots of land going to be affected, BugandaKingdom signed a memorandum of understanding with Henan Guoji Industry Group Limited. This deal has made hundreds of people in Buganda going to be affected to ask whether the Kabaka is still interested in protecting his subjects. It is alleged that the Chinese company dished out US dollars in order to make this deal a success.

Henan Guoji Company has already bought off cultural land in Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi and Guinea. Zhang Chao, the company’s managing director, says Henan Guoji is ready to use Kabaka’s land in real estate development and engineering construction.

The Buganda Investments and Commercial Undertakings Limited (BICUL chief executive officer Roland Sebuwufu says the land whose occupants to be affected is the Central Business Districts of Buganda (ie Kampala, Wakiso, Mukono, Luweero, Mpigi and Masaka).
