Conservationists in a campaign to save elephants

Wild life conservationists are moving around Kampala in a big group to peacefully protest against the increasing killing of elephants for ivory and create awareness against the vice.

UWA is among the organisers of the campaign.

UWA is among the organisers of the campaign.

They include Officials from Wild Life Authority, Tour operators, Game rangers, Environmentalists, and the General public among others who are participating in the walk in Kampala that they say has a major market for illegal ivory trade in Uganda.

The elephant walk is also aimed at sending a strong message to all Ugandans that the Ivory is for elephants not for humans to use.

The organisers further explain that many elephants have been killed innocently by poachers for illegal ivory yet Uganda currently has 5000 elephants only down from over 30,000 elephants in1960’s.
