Democracy Monitoring Group calls for time limit on election petitions

The Democracy Monitoring Group has called for a time limit on election petitions.

The call comes days after the high court nullified the election of Mukono North MP, Rev. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa over voter bribery.

The nullification followed an appeal by Democratic Party’s Betty Nambooze who contested for the same seat in the 2006 polls.

The DEMO group director, Jasper Tumuhimbise says many cases have dragged on wasting the complainants time and resources.

He says there is need to set a time frame of not more than 6 months in which an appeal should be heard.
