Government has been advised to factor into the 5-year National Development Plan provisions for recruitment of medical doctors in the country.

Speaking at a workshop on maternal health, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga notes that the plan, which was launched recently, ignores the urgent need for more medical personnel, most of whom leave government hospitals for greener pastures.

Kadaga says, Ugandans continue to die in hospitals due to lack of doctors to treat them, adding that unless government prioritizes recruitment, hospitals will continue to run without skilled workers.

Kadaga also called for the upgrading of paramedic schools into universities to be able to train more medical students.
