Directorate General for Development Cooperation Scholarships awarded in DGCD partner countries.

Each year, a number of Directorate General for Development Cooperation Scholarships are awarded exclusively in the DGCD partner countries.

The scholarship files are selected in the field and not in Brussels.

All candidates interested by a scholarship should send their application form directly to the Attaché for Development Cooperation or to the Embassy of Belgium in the partner country.

Partner countries of Belgian Development Cooperation in Africa are: Algeria, Benin, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Uganda, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania and South Africa.

Types of scholarships

The scholarships in Belgium are primarily awarded for financing third cycle (postgraduate) courses.

Besides a monthly living allowance, the scholarship also covers registration fees, travel expenses and insurances. Usually, the stay in Belgium lasts for 1 or 2 academic years.

Mixed doctorate scholarships are mainly awarded to doctorate/PhD students.

This kind of scholarship covers a stay of 16 months in Belgium, which the scholarship student will use for his research (16 months to be divided in 4 stays over a duration of maximum four years).

Besides a monthly living allowance (which will be paid only for the periods of stay in Belgium), the mixed doctorate scholarship also covers registration fees, travel expenses and insurances.

The Internship scholarships, with an average stay in Belgium of 1 to 6 months, are usually awarded to experts working in the cooperation field.

Besides a daily living allowance, the scholarship also covers course fees, travel expenses and insurances.

The purpose of study tours is to allow partners working in the cooperation field to discover a relevant Belgian branch of activity or public sector.

Note: Some of the partner countries do not have a quota for scholarships in Belgium.

On the other hand, various partner countries have a quota for local or regional courses.

Apply to the Attaché for Development Cooperation or to the Embassy of Belgium in the partner country for additional information.
