Dr. Cryspus Kiyonga grilled over Ministry of Defense Accountability

The Defense and Internal Affairs committee today put the Ministry of Defense to task to explain its failure to attach the accountability for 1.7 trillion shillings used by government to purchase military ware.

Government recently purchased fighter jets, which caused uproar from sections of the public over what they described as wasteful expenditure.

The officials, led by Defense minister, Hon. Crispus Kiyonga, were grilled by the legislators after it emerged that they had not included the monies in their policy statement but mentioned that it was public debt.

This however did not go down well with MPs, Hussein Kyanjo and Theodore Ssekikubo who said the ministry was hiding something by not reflecting the expenditure.

Kiyonga explained that the monies were allocated through Ministry of Finance, which should be the one to reflect the money and not the Defense ministry.
