The Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda has hailed the Church for promoting peace and security which he said was the NRM government fundamental pillar for rapid economic recovery and development of the country. Rugunda said the Church’s historical role in developing Uganda dates as far back as 1877 when the Church missionary society built churches, health centres and schools throughout the country.

The Premier made the remarks at the Healing for the Nations international convention 2015 which was organised by World Shine Evangelistic Ministries at Ntinda Primary school grounds in Kampala. “When there is peace the people of Uganda engage in wealth creation without fear for their lives or for their properties,” Rugunda said adding that the church should be a shining example of tolerance for diverse views in society to instil the love of God even among those who see things differently.

He also commended the Church for promoting regional relationships and cooperation which he said further strengthens peace and security across borders. “The days of fragmentation are quickly coming to an end and the more we see ourselves as part of the wider community, the more we shall benefit from the economic opportunities that exist beyond our borders,” said the Premier.

The President of the World shine evangelistic ministries, Rev. Dr Medad Birungibyayesu said their mission was to raise God fearing men and women with integrity to take leadership roles and influence the nations of the world for Jesus Christ. He thanked Government for the peace and stability and for allowing the gospel of Jesus Christ to be preached freely in the country. Birungibyayesu called upon Government to partner with his ministry in building the kingdom of God.

The Annual convention with the theme ‘Thy Kingdom come’ has attracted participants from about 14 countries including United States of America, United Kingdom, Canada, Pakistan, South Africa, Malawi and all the East African countries.
