The Democratic Republic of Congo declared the end of the country’s Ebola epidemic after the outbreak killed over55 people in the past five months.
“I am solemnly happy to declare the end of the 11th epidemic Ebola virus in Equator Province “Health Minister Eteni Longondo told the media.
The World Health Organization said that the latest outbreak killed 55 people out of 119 confirmed and 11 probable cases since it began in June.
As during the epidemic East of the country, the wide use of vaccinations helped to reduce spread of the disease.
That outbreak which began in August 2020 was the deadliest for the country with 2,277 deaths.
The latest epidemic of the Ebola hemorrhagic fever happened though the previous outbreak was not officially over but the country had started taking measures to combat the Coronavirus.
The minister also said that there is a high risk of resurgence.
