The East African investment conference has ended today with a call to member states of Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi to implement recommendations aimed at fostering economic growth at regional level.

EAC leader President Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania

The conference attended by over 2500 delegates has resolved to tackle non-tariff and improve investment in electricity generation to boost trade.

The delegates also agreed that there must be investment aimed at improving the infrastructure in the region, especially the road and railway networks.

The President of Tanzania who is also the chairperson of the East African Community, Jakaya Kikwete notes that often resolutions are made but are not implemented.

Kikwete says this must change if tangible results are to be realized in East Africa and challenges member states to take advantage of the Common Market protocol to boost trade in the region.
