Electoral Commission appeals to political parties

The Uganda Electoral Commission has appealed to opposition political parties to guide and support the elections body instead of always throwing criticism at the Electoral Commision.

The Electoral Commission’s returning Officer of Iganga, Geoffrey Sempiima says it is the duty of all political parties to support the commission instead of criticizing its activities.

Speaking at a workshop for journalists organized by Uganda Media Development Foundation at Safari Inn Hotel, Jinja, Sempiima said it is unfair for members of opposition parties to condemn the activities of the commission instead of supporting the commission to organize free and fair polls in 2011.

He says the support of political parties and the public is vital is the electoral commission is to free and fair elections in 2011. Uganda is preparing to hold general elections in March 2011.
