The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has said that more women leaders are needed across the country to advocate and implement more policies that will empower women in Uganda.

Addressing journalists at Parliament, Kadaga said that while women have got many achievements under NRM government, more efforts are still needed to empower them socially and economically.

She says that although women in urban centers are reasonably empowered, many of their counterparts in rural areas are suffering in poverty and at the mercy of their husbands and cultural norms.

Kadaga says that many women in Uganda do not know their rights.

She says more efforts are needed to empower women in all parts of Uganda so that they can participate in governance and economic activities.
