The minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Hillary Onek is calling for strict mechanisms to regulate the practice of engineers, which he says has been penetrated by many unqualified people.

The minister’s remarks follow several incidents in which building structures have collapsed, in cases related to unprofessional and unqualified engineers at work.

The Minister was addressing the 15th conference of engineers today. He says the onus is on the engineers to ensure that the process of their registration is strict enough to weed out such characters.

At the same function, the president of the Uganda institute of professional engineers, Anania Mbabazi challenged fellow professionals to come up with applicable solutions to the country’s infrastructural problems, which are on the increase.
