Examiners threaten to stage strike at UNEB headquarters

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has delayed payment of its examiners.  The examiners have threatened to stage a violent strike at the poverty striken UNEB.

The examiners who marked senior four (S4) and Senior 6 exams put UNEB in the news that they not received their wage since December 2013. The marking of the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams (read S4) was completed in December 2013 while the advanced certificate (UACE) exams (read S6) were completed in January 2014.

Although the examiners reveal that UNEB has not paid them, education minister Jessica Alupo claimed when contacted by the press that all examiners were fully paid in January 2014. Like Alupo, UNEB chairperson Fagil Mandy says that all payments to examiners had been made. But UNEB spokesperson Hamis Kaheru told us that some examiners were not paid because their bank account had errors.
