FDC urges supporters to vote soberly

The Forum for Democratic Change vice president central region Sam Njuba has urged the delegates to vote soberly as this will guarantee the party’s victory come 2011.

This follows allegations of voter bribery by Gen. Mugisha Muntu’s camp, allegations that he has vehemently denied.

The chaos that ensued has forced the organizers of the conference to amend the agenda to allow voting without any more confusion.

He has also warned of stun action against those planning to disrupt the delegates’ conference.

Njuba has also announced the defection of one Stephen Byakutaga of Hoima from the NRM to the FDC.

The conference being held at Nambole stadium opened with a call on the electoral commission to hasten action on electoral reforms.

The electoral commission has however on several occasions disregarded the claims.

Njuba has also commended the women for peace for championing the call for electoral reforms.

He has dispelled fears that the FDC intends to over shadow the other political parties that are under the inter-party corporation, saying the opposition needs one strong voice to be able to make a difference on Uganda’s political scene.

The delegates have also observed a moment of silence in honor of all the people who died in the September city riots, Buduuda landslides, floods and the Kasubi shoot out, calling for an international commission of inquiry into the matter.

Earlier, there was chaos as the supporters of Maj Gen. Mugisha Muntu objected to the idea of having Dr. Besigye open the conference.

They argued that this would give him undue advantage over his opponent.

It was then decided that Salamu Musumba in her capacity as the vice president takes over the role.
