Functions and sources of fats

 

We get fats from the consumption of meat, eggs, lamb meat, milk, cream, cheese, coconut, ground nuts, sim-sim, palms, and butter among other products.

Fats, according to Dr. Aisha Rashid Lukwago of Clinic on Aids Research in Namasuba along Kampala –Entebbe road in central Uganda provide energy to the body.

Fats are created during infancy and childhood for normal brain development. Dr. Lukwago also says that fats are required in smaller amounts after two (2) years of age.

They (fats) store toxic substances and work as nerve smoother, fats act as insulator and they provide body temperature.
