General Aronda calls for double effort to reduce cancer disease

The internal affairs minister, Gen. Aronda Nyakayirima is calling for a
multiple level approach to tackling the cancer scourge that is eating
up the populace.

Speaking at the official opening of the two day training workshop of
security forces heads of health departments in Kampala today, Aronda
stated that professionals, advocates and communities need to be taken
up for the fight to be successful but also castigates the mythes that
people raise over the disease which he says have contributed to its
rise.
Meanwhile, the IGP notes that more emphasis be put on strengthening
health systems of the country in abid to have a health
population.

Still a cancer doctor from India, Dr. Shabeer Ahmed who wants to set
up a multi billion cancer facility in the country warns that if
nothing is done very fast then uganda will carry the cancer burden
which in the end will be very expensive to accommodate.

Statistics at the uganda cancer institute reveal that 22,000 new cases
are registered every year with 20,000 losing their lives annually.
