Government asked to answer concerns of teachers and avoid strike

The member of parliament for Kalungu west in Kalungu District Joseph Ssewungu has asked government to respond to teachers salary and allowances demands to avoid the pending teachers sit down.

This followed teachers announcing seven days sit down strike from 27th July if government does not adhere to their demands of increasing their salary by 100%.

MP ssewungu said that the teachers strike should be averted by government quickly and increase their salary and allowances of those teachers of hard to reach areas.

He said that Uganda is losing most of its teachers to other countries because of low pay to them by government.

Teachers demand salary increase of 100% so as they earn 546,000 shillings per month.
