Government asks court to dismiss Lord Mayor’s application of judicial review

The government has asked the High Court to dismiss an application for judicial review of the Catherine Bamugemereire filed by the Lord Mayor of Kampala, Erias Lukwago.

The minister for Kampala, Frank Tumwebaze says Lukwago’s application has been overtaken by events. Lukwago  is seeking to quash the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Tribunal Report that led to his controversial impeachment in 2013 by a group of councilors whom the government reportedly bribed to do so.

Lukwago’s application for judicial review is scheduled for Wednesday before Justice Yasin Nyanzi. The minister says that the attorney general advised him that the process to remove Lukwago as the Lord Mayor was valid, bad in law, premature and added that it raises no relevant grounds for grants of remedies that he is seeking.
