Government to build valley dams for cattle keepers

In order to solve the increasing water needs of cattle keepers, the government of Uganda is planning to set up a bulldozer tractor hire scheme in cattle keeping areas of Nkole, Karamoja, Ntungamo and Nakasongola among others.

The tractors are going to help herdsmen to dig their own valley dams.

The State Minister for Agriculture, Henry Bagire has told journalists at Uganda Media Centre in Kampala today mourning that the government had secured money to fund this pilot project.

He says the project will help to provide the much needed water for livestock and thus ensure the livelihood of cattle keepers.
