The National Forestry Authority (NFA) sector manager for Kagadi, Charles Arian has called upon Gov’t to provide funds for boundary marking of the forest reserves in Kagadi

Kagadi poseses 6 of the central forest reserves in Kibaale district and the said forest reserves are being depleted by locals who are cutting down the trees for cultivation and timber harvesting

While on a working tour to examine the status of the forests ahead of the world forest day due on Saturday 21st march 2015 Charles Arian told journalists that, the NFA has endeavored to enforce laws for the protection of forests but the effort to fight the encroachers has been hampered by the absence of clearly marked forest boundaries.

The encroachers have now taken advantage and are cutting down the forest trees with impunity, he says.

He suggests that a well-qualified surveyor should be attached to each gazetted forest to undertake boundary marking and opening. At the moment NFA only employs a few surveyors who are based at the NFA headquarters to serve forests across the country.
