Government wants innovators to help tackle agricultural challenges, says minister.

Scientists have been asked to concentrate on inventing new technologies that can provide cheap irrigation systems to beat the unpredictable weather.

The call comes at the time when Uganda is facing loaming food shortage due to climate change.

Last week Bank of Uganda warned of increasing food prices across the country due to the current drastic weather.

The Minister for Science, Technology & Innovation, Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye, says the president has been emphasizing the issue of manufacturing solar irrigation system that can benefit farmers in areas that are not covered by the power grid.

He says that through the Innovation Fund, government is ready to support any innovator, especially those focused on clean energy generation and any technology that can ease doing agriculture in Uganda.
