Health worker detained for soliciting bribe from patient

Police in fort portal are holding a laboratory technician from Buhinga regional referral hospital for soliciting a bribe from a patient.

The police have identified the suspect as Mwanguhya George aged 52 years and resident of Karambi SubCounty in Kabarole district.

The victim who has been identified as Bakunda Deograsious says the lab technician asked for 150,000 shillings bribe after taking a blood sample from the patient.

Bakunda explains that he had spent one week in the hospital without receiving medical treatment after failing to raise the money for a blood test.

Mwanguhya was arrested on Tuesday at 2:00 pm after Bakunda gave him 50,000 shillings and later reported the matter to police.

Bakari mugga the western region police spokesperson says the accused is still detained at Fort Portal police station.
