How FDC won Kasese woman MP race

 

The news that came on Wednesday from Kasese showed that opposition FDC chief whip in parliament, Winnie Kiiza had enjoyed a comfortable win after sweeping Kasese municipality, and Bwera Town council, a constituency of the so called “Emanzi ya Kasese (deep waters of Kasese).”

Defence Minister, Dr. Chrispus Kiyonga (Bukonzo West MP) comes from Emanzi ya Kasese. But the FDC strong woman won Kiyonga’s constituency with an amazing results of all the polling stations in it. The FDC won 1400 votes against NRM’s Rehema Muhindo’s 137 votes in the place where Kiyonga and the NRM candidate voted from.

Hon. Winnie Kiiza also won Bukonzo East, where she hails from and a constituency represented by her husband FDC’s Hon. Yokhasi Bwambale Bihande with an overwhelming victory where as NRM’s Rehema Muhindo was severely beaten in her home constituency even at her polling station (Bishop Masereka’s clinic) FDc garnered 189 votes against her 94 votes.  Cerebrations were else where in Kasese as bars run out of stock. Winnie Kiiza of FDC polled 97669 and Rehema of NRM polled 59946 in Wednesday’s women MP by elections in Kasese district. The seat fell vacant after the court nullified Kiiza’s victory over election irregularities.
