Human rights organs ask government to save dying Karimojongs

Life in Karamoja

Human rights organizations have asked the government of Uganda to give more attention to the suffering people living in the Karamojja region.

This follows statistics that indicate that over 80% of the population in Karamoja sub region lives below poverty line. Karamoja region is characterized by prolonged drought, diseases, murder, cattle raids and hunger.

The head of the United Nations office of the High commissioner for Human Rights, Brigit Gerstenberg has told journalists in Kampala today that the Karamoja region has for a long time been neglected,  leaving the population to suffer in endless poverty and chronic diseases.

Bright urges the government of Uganda to treat all regions and people of Uganda equally. In Uganda the people from the regions where most political leaders come from are treated more human than those from less privileged regions.
