ICC accused of targeting African politicians

Sudan International Defence Group has told the International Criminal Court to back off African politics and leave Africa to provide its own solutions to the political problems that it faces without any interference from the International Criminal Court.

This comes at a time when the ICC’s prosecutor Moreno Ocampo has been demanding increasing powers of prosecution over African elections, journalists and political party dispensations in the different African countries.

A researcher of the Sudan International Defence Group, Stephen Morris has told Ultimate Media in Kampla that the ICC has ruthlessly exploited the media and its smaller dependent Non Governmental Organisations to describe Africa as a disjointed collection of failed states.

Morris says after painting such a bad picture the ICC wants to use such a picture to unreasonably enforce legal actions against various African leaders and interfere in the internal politics of African countries.

He says however African countries should stand firm and resist such acts of the ICC that infringe the rights of the African states to self determination and self management.

Morris the ICC should also stop unnecessarily interfering in the politics of the different African states under the guise of pursuing perpetrators of war crimes.

The Africa Research Center last week released a report by its leader Dr David Hoile claiming that the ICC was created by the western developed countries to specifically target African leaders for prosecution.

But the ICC Chief Prosecutor Moreno Ocampo said the ICC was established under the UN mandate to indict and prosecute all those committing war crimes and crimes against humanity. He says the court has indicted several leaders in different parts of the world other than Africa, including dormer Chilean President, the Late Augusto Pinochet.
