The Buganda Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga has appointed a five-man organising committee tasked with ensuring that celebrations for Kabaka Ronald Mutebi’s birthday this year are a success.
The Kabaka will be turning 66 years old on April 13.
Mayiga unveiled the committee on Tuesday, at Bulange in Mengo, Kampala.
The committee is chaired by Dr Prosperous Nankindu Kavuma who’s also the kingdom’s minister for education, health, and development. He is deputised by the kingdom’s deputy minister for agriculture, Hamis Kakomo.
Other members are Josephine Nantege, Baker Ssejjengo, and Flavia Ntege (secretary), and Dr Richard Kibanda a Buganda Lukiiko (parliament) member.
Every year, the kingdom celebrates Kabaka’s birthday with marathons organised in various parts of the country and climaxed by a dinner Mutebi usually hosts at Twekobe Palace in Mengo.
Last year’s celebrations were pushed from April 13 to November 29, due to the COVID-19 outbreak that led to the banning of social gatherings in observance of the ministry of health guidelines.
