Kabarole farmers cry over Cassava wilt disease

Residents Kibaya parish in Karangura sub county Kabarole district are calling upon the government and the district to come to their rescue because they have been affected by cassava wilt disease.

Kahuuzo Nasoni the chairman LC1 for Kibaga B village says that over 20 families have been affected by the disease. More people are expected to be affected in coing months as the disease spreads.

Nasoni says that the disease starts with the cassava leaves turning yellow and the roots end up savaging and later the cassava roots rot.

Kahuuzo says the people in the parish have been depending on banana and they were affected by Banana bacterial wilt disease after they resorted to cassava and now it has been affected.

He says that the diseases is set to increase poverty in the sub county and leave many locals with no food.  He calls upon the government to intervene.

Fred Isingoma Baker the Karangura Sub County NAADS coordinator says that through the agricultural ordinance people were sensitized and given time to cut all bananas that are affected.

He adds that those who cannot comply with the law the sub county shall use force to cut the bananas.
