Latest HIV prevalence report in Uganda

HIV/AIDS testing is one of the chief means of slowing new infections which have steadily increased in East Africa especially in Uganda. The cases of HIV spread in Ugandahave increased from 124,000 annually, as of 2009, to 130,000 today.

The Ministry of Health IN Uganda estimates that 40 percent, or about 13,600, 000 people in Uganda, of the 34 million Ugandans do not know their HIV life status.

But Dr. Joshua Musinguzi, the HIV/AIDS control programme manager in the ministry of health, applauds the invention of the new home test HIV kit saying that now people can test for HIV in the comfort of their homes.

Researchers assert that testing for HIV would help to reduce new infections in Ugandaand perhaps around Africa.

The Uganda AIDS Indicator Survey (UAIS) report released last month indicates that Uganda’s HIV/AIDS prevalence rate shot up from 6.4% in 2005 to 7.3% today. The research findings indicate that the prevalence is higher among women (8.3%) than men (6.1%).
