Lawyers want government to set up free legal service centers

Legal experts in the country are strongly reminding government to set up fully fledged legal centers across the country to enhance free legal aid to those that can not afford to pay for legal services from practicing law firms or professionals.
In a media meeting held today in Kampala, the National Coordinator, Justice Centres Uganda, Christine B. Nsubuga says that the need for free legal aid to the poor Ugandan is eminent since the poor cannot achieve personal economic progress if their rights are violated by the rich and those who wield power in the country.
She further revealed that 63% which amounts to a total of 24m Ugandans can not afford to access legal services and hence the need to have free legal aid services set up across the country.
She says at the moment only 70% males and less than 30% females can access free legal services.

She says this is among the major challenges they still face as free legal aid service providers since they want this access to legal services to be equal for all genders
