The Makerere University Elections Tribunal has declared null and void the election victory of John Teira, the National Resistance Movement party candidate in the Makerere Guild race.

John Teira. His victory as Muk Guild President canceled

The committee in a statement signed by its Chairperson, Christine Kiganda ruled on the petition that was filed after the March 23rd elections that there were irregularities that necessitated a re-election of the Makerere University Guild President.

The petitioners complained that the electoral process was biased, there was an invalid voters register, the university electoral commission illegally nullified results in some voting centers and illegally disqualified Shaban Ssenkubuge of the Democratic Party as a Guild candidate.

The Makerere University Elections Tribunal in a statement released Thursday evening said the elections for the Makerere University Guild President should be repeated before 10th April 2010 in Livingstone Hall, Nkurumah Hall and Africa Hall.

The Tribunal ruled that Senkubuge should be reinstated as a candidate and his results that were cancelled be reinstated.

Kiganda says the details of the Tribunal’s ruling will be available at Makerere University’s Dean of Students’ Office next week.

It was not possible to get a comment from either Teira of Senkubuge by press time.
