Makerere lecturers petition court over MUBS boss Balunywa

Former lecturers of Makerere University Business School (MUBS) Nakawa have petitioned court challenging the appointment of the school’s principal, Prof. Waswa Balunywa.

Prof. Waswa Balunywa, MUBS Principal

The lecturers are seeking orders directing the principal Waswa Balunywa to vacate office on grounds that his appointment was nullified in 2008 on the orders of the Inspector General of Government.

Dr. James Akampulira and Eddy Kurobuza accuse Balunywa of illegally occupying the office since his four- year term expired in 2003.

They also argue that he lacks the required academic qualifications for one to hold such an office.

The academicians further argue that Balunywa was appointed by the education service commission which has no legal mandate to appoint the principal of MUBS.

They now want court to declare that the MUBS principal and his council are illegally occupying office.

They also want orders re-instating them in their offices. This case is before the Constitutional Court in Kampala.
