Medicines expire as residents go without required treatment

Residents and local community pressure groups in Bunyoro region want the Hoima and Kibaale district health official investigated over the expiry of government drugs.

Hoima district health official Dr Joseph Ruyonga and his Kibaale counterpart Dr. Dan Kyamanya to be investigated as to why for the last nine (9) years the two districts failed to use drugs dispatched by the national medical stores leaving them to expire in stores as it was reported the auditors generals report released last week.

The citizens together with the anti-corruption civil society organizations working in Hoima and Kibaale districts want the two district health officials held accountable for the expire of the drugs.

The chairman concern citizen Ahusi Balyesima has asked the government to set-up a probe committee to handle the matter since government seems to be losing a lot of tax payer’s money due to negligence and lazy officials.

The coordinator mid western anti-corruption coalition James Ruyonge doesn’t want to spare the health management committee for the expiry of the drugs since they play a vital role in ensuring the daily operations of the health centre’s and Hospitals on signatories to drug requisition and usage.

Doctor Joseph Ruyonga Hoima district health officer and Dr Dan Kyamanya have both declined to comment on the matter.

Kibaale chief administrative officer Dansan Balaba has confirmed the reports but says the drugs were non-essential and there was no patients to be treated using the drugs.
