Members of Uganda Media council replaced

Members of Uganda Media Council have been reshuffled and replaced with new ones according to sources in the ministry of Information and National guidance.

The information minister, Karooro Okrut inaugurated the new media council on Tuesday this week inKampala.   The new members on the Media Council are Dr. Gorreti Nassanga (chairperson) and Dr. Amooti Katebalirwe.

Others are Wilson, Venus Omana, Paul Ekochu, Kawooya Mwebe, Paul Mukasa, Linda Nabusayi, Peter Okello Jabweri and Assumpta Kemigisha.  

Karooro assured the new members of the Media council that the government will improve on their funding and also asked them to fight pornography.

 The Uganda Media Council was established in 1994 and it is charged with the role of regulating the Ugandan media.

The Council is supposed to ensure that the freedom of the media and create a system for the regulation of the qualifications of editors and journalists.
