Ministry to give out 25 Million Mosquito nets

mosquito netMinistry of Health is set to distribute a total of 25 Million Mosquito nets starting August this year; a move aimed at sensitizing Ugandans on how to eradicate Malaria ahead of the international Malaria day celebrations under Global Fund Initiative. This has been revealed by the minister of State for Primary Health Care Sarah Opendi at Metropole Hotel during a press briefing as one of the activities to mark the international Malaria Day on Monday 25th April, 2016 which will be held in Lira district.
Opendi says the Mosquito Nets which were distributed in 2013/14 are old and need to  be phased out for the distribution of new ones. She says some mosquito nets have holes and others can no longer hold the chemical that kills the mosquitoes hence the spread of Malaria. She noted this has mostly affected pregnant mothers who end up having miscarriages

The Malaria indicator survey indicates that the spread of malaria has reduced from 42% – 19%; pregnant women who slept under insecticide treated nets, house residual spray, and untreated insecticide mosquito nets have increased hence saving  lives of the unborn babies.
