MP Ssekikubo hails NRM for switching to adult suffrage voting system

The Member of Parliament for Lwemiyaga County in Sembabule district Theodore Ssekikubo has hailed a move by the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party for dumping the old Electoral College system of voting in favor of adult suffrage.

The adult suffrage system will allow all NRM supporters to elect flag their bearers who will compete for elective positions in the coming 2011 Uganda general elections

The decision was reached by NRM delegates at the recently concluded NRM national delegate’s conference at Namboole stadium.

Ssekikubo told Ultimate Media on Friday that Electoral Colleges wasn’t a fair system because some members of the NRM party used it to rig internal party elections.

The outspoken NRM MP says party members would find it easy to bribe members of the Electoral College vote for them because they were few. He says that it will be hard to bribe NRM voters under the new system because they are many.
