The Members of Parliament want to alter powers to appoint the Electoral Commission (EC) from the President to an independent commission.

The Acting Leader of Opposition, Kasiano Wadri says they are about to table a Constitutional Amendment Bill that seeks to alter such powers.

He says the Bill will be tabled by the Shadow Attorney General, Erias Lukwago.

Kasiano also says the bill seeks to restore two Presidential term limits and remove soldiers from Parliament.
Kasiano emphasises that the current Electoral Commission is incapable of organizing free and fair polls in 2011.

The government side will officially respond to Kasiano’s remarks next week.
