mps want gender ministry money halted

Public Accounts committee of parliament has observed that the 3 billion shillings allocated to the ministry of gender for taking children off streets each financial year is a misallocation calls for its halting.

The MPs on the committee expressed concern following the ministry officials’ failure to state the number of street children the ministry has so far resettled to either the rehabilitation centres or their homes.

According to the youth MP for western Uganda Gerald Karuhanga, the ministry does not prioritize the removal of street children and instead end up feasting on the money meant to resettle those children.

Karuhanga also expressed concern that the few children the ministry has taken off the streets have been mixed with the insane at Kampiringisa rehabilitation centre, forcing them back to the streets.

Over the years, several children have reportedly left their homes for street begging in different towns with the majority reportedly from Karamoja flooding Kampala streets.
